China Textile Academy (CTA) was founded in 1956，originally affiliated to the Ministry of Textile Industry; in 1999, it was transformed to the largest comprehensive science and technology R & D institute in China’s textile industry, operating directly under the leadership of the central government. CTA has more than 1300 employeeswith highly educated and qualified research talent, as well as advanced and professional instruments，facilities and trial production workshop. The National Engineering Research Center of Industrial Textile, the National Engineering Research Center of Synthetic Fiber, Productivity Promotion Center of Textile Industry, National Quality Supervision and Inspection Center of Cotton Textile Products,Textile Industry Standardization Institute are all affiliated to CTA which is the technology development base of textile industry.

　　In recent years, with the aim of establishing a high-tech textile industry group and industry technology development base, CTA has started to run the enterprise on a commercial basis. The R & D Center mainly engages in the basic research and technological development for general, key and future-oriented technologies in co-operation with some of the most important enterprises and universities; as well as assimilating, innovating, integrating and forming a complete set of importing technologies. The R & D Center not only provides the medium for long-term technical support for the affiliated production enterprises and cooperative partners, but also provides the technical enhancements and upgrading of the whole textile industry. The Productivity Promotion Center of Textile Industry mainly serves enterprises by providing technical support and technical consulting, and facilitates the transfer of technological achievement to the enterprises. Also the center is responsible for the development of national textile standards, metrology, quality supervision and product certificate with the principle of fairness and objectiveness. With the technical reform, technical innovation and expansion of production capability, the core competitiveness and market share for the three main businesses, (namely, textile electromechanical equipment and engineering, high-tech textiles and textile chemicals), are constantly increased. The major business scopes: textile, chemical fiber, machinery manufacturing, biochemical, electromechanical automation, real estate development, import & export business and so on. The annual turnover of CTA run up to 1 billion US dollars, including the products sales and projects contract income.

　　CTA has not only established very close cooperation and extensive contact with some of the most important textile enterprises and universities nationwide, but also have established and maintained good relationship of exchange and cooperation with the UN and almost 100 companies, universities and research institutes in around 20 countries in CTA’s 50 year’s development history.
